Most commonly, nosebleeds are caused by dry air from heaters and A/C units. Other reasons are nose picking, sores in the nostril, hypertension, polyps in the nose, pregnancy and sinus colds/infections.

Advanced diseases that result in low platelet counts may also be a cause.
